Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) is again, position itself as the body behind and championing the idea of creating a Nigerian Identity document for Nigeria`s living in South Africa.
According to vanguard publication, Nigerian Consul General in South Africa, Amb, Uche Ajulu-Okeke, says the country’s mission was in the process of discussing with the South African government to recognise a Nigerian identity card. Whereas Nigerians living in South Africa has not been wildly consulted and opinion sorted on ways and how such document with national face, character and values can be protected, how varying the Identity document will help improve or protect Nigerian both in South Africa, and back home.
The paper went further to say that “ The Consulate is in the process of discussing with the government of South Africa to accord it recognition so that we reduce the incidents of loss of Nigerian passports.
To many, there has been and will always be the loss of passport and that is why the consulate is there.
Again, this is a clear indication and show of irresponsibility and misplacement of consulates office services and duties to the people, except if only this identity document will be issued free to all Nigerians, and their babies, both those bourn to for them by their South Frican wives.
Otherwise, we take it that we are about to face the same practice where,Nigerian immigration office change the nation’s passport at will at huge cost to the people, where they smile,to,their, banks at the peoples’ expense.
Her statement, the Consulate approved the identity card to identify Nigerian citizens in South Africa.
Meaning that Nigerians living here now are not and can not be easily identified. If so, the question – then is why and what are the lay down process of identifying Nigerians before now and what is wrong with that process?
If the process is wrong, what is wrong with it and what consultations or processes is the consulate engaging with the people to certain sustainable working measures to,addressing what ever needs that informs the introduction of the said identity document
I am,sure, that Nigerians are tired of being manipulated, exploited and being thrown from pillar to post for what is not the fault of theirs.
I do not think that Nigerians in South Africa are ready, prepared or want this identity documents, except like I have said, it ll be issued free of charge and will also help in improving the, provision of consular assistance to Nigerian by the consulate office.
